One month and counting :)

This week I enter my 36th week. The baby is now considered full-term in that he/she is fully developed but continues to gain weight and grow bigger. Though I feel like I am getting short on space in my tummy already- I find it difficult to bend over/manuever, tie shoes and I bump into nearly everything! But the little one will enter the world when good and ready and so I remain patient and continue with my preparations. I’ve got the Birthing Centre bag packed with gear for the baby and me. We’ve packed the trunk with all the needed accessories. The car seat is installed and yes we practiced! Yesterday I purchased nursing bras and post-natal necessities. We spent quite some time in the baby section at London Drugs trying to decide on diapers for the first few weeks. Since we will likely be in Calgary for the first week post-delivery AND I’ve heard that newborn poos are scary we have opted for eco-friendly, all natural cotton diapers equipped with umbilical cord cut-out. Who knew there were so many choices?! There were also some cool options for compostable, cloth diapers for when the babies are 10lbs+.

As many of you know we are planning on using natural infant hygiene/elimination communication from about 6 weeks onward. So from then on we will be creating less waste and using cloth diapers when needed. I will be (hopefully) posting more regularly once this process begins to educate the nay-sayers but mostly to depict my experience with this awesome practice. This is how its done in many parts of the world, outside of North America that is. Although there is a growing movement of eco-friendly, intuitive parents in this part of the world as well. For more info now check out this content-packed page: http://www.naturalchild.org/guest/ingrid_bauer.html. It should be a fun ride. I don’t doubt there will be challenges along the way but we’re committed to the cause so we shall see how things pan out!
